5 Ethical Brands to Invest in This Spring/Summer

ENG: Okay, so in 2017 I want to upgrade my wardrobe to a more ethical version instead of buying only fast fashion brands. So no more shopping at H&M and Primark, taking time to decide if I really want/need something new, and invest in pretty and long lasting sustainable clothingpieces. Well said Eva, now start taking action.

Were should you start when you want to buy more ethical clothes? I found that very hard at the beginning because I don't want to pay hundreds of euros, but I don't want to sacrifice my own style as well. Luckily there are more ethical clothing brands on the internet that I thought. Hereby a list of my favourites:

The webshop of Matter Prints consists mainly of pants and jumpsuits with fun prints. The clothes are all produced in India and with every product that you select, there is a description of how and by who it's made. And not without a reason. Matter Prints want to make more people aware of the story behind the clothes they buy and wear. They hope that people start asking more about how and where a product is made before they buy it.

WE BELIEVE THAT FEWER, BETTER THINGS LEAD TO A FULLER, BETTER LIFE.

Cuyana has a beautiful webshop in both the design and the products they sell. Their slogan: WE BELIEVE IN STYLE OVER TRENDS, IN QUALITY OVER QUANTITY, IN LOVING YOUR CLOSET. WE BELIEVE THAT FEWER, BETTER THINGS LEAD TO A FULLER, BETTER LIFE.

The founders of Cuyana are two ladies that came to the conclusion that we are all overwelmed with the quick changing trends and the urge to follow these trends. Because there are so many good deals in the fast fashion industry it's easy to keep up with the trends, but the problem is that after a season you end up with a whole bunch of clothing that you don't want to wear anymore. That is why Cuyana focusses on classic designs and colors that are relevent the whole year around. The two ladies travel the world to find the best fabrics and craftsmen to produce their products. Because of all the travelling and fair collbaorations with the craftsmen, every product has it's own story and fair production process to begin to end.

Reformation wants to show with it's clothing that sustainable fashion doesn't have to be boring and they hope to inspire other brands to start sustainable producing as well. The biggest part of their clothes are produced in their headquarters in Los Angeles. The rest of the clothes are made in foreign countries and other parts of America, but of course they make sure that the production and materials are sustainable.

4. Toms

The products of Toms are made in a sustainable way and from vegan materials. Even though their products are made in China, Ethiopia and Argentina, Toms makes sure that their employees are treated fairly and they have a strict policy against slavery and human trafficking. Toms also wants to give back to their employees. For every product that they sell they help people in third world countries by providing clean water, safe birth training, and medical help for poor sighted people.

Tonlé collects fabrics that a declared unusable by the big manufacturers and they make new fabrics from it. This is also called the zero-waste technique. When the new fabrics are ready Tonlé produces their products without using machines. Everything is handmade by a team of specialists.
